The problem, priced

A 90-second film, forty takes a shot

Point a flagship model at a screenplay and you pay for every failed take at flagship rates. Nobody publishes that number, so here it is — measured, not estimated.

3-minute film, 4K master — measured July 2026
StageNaiveReelcodex
Casting & reference stills$1.03
Exploration takes$806.40$20.52
Final takesincluded above$26.46
4K master$14.48$14.48
Total generation cost$820.88$62.49

36 shots at 5s. Exploration at 480p, finals at 1080p, one 4K pass over the full cut. A 90-second film runs about $25.

Why it works

Your cast is a saved object, not a paragraph

Describe a character in prose and every shot returns a different person — we measured it: identical prompts, visibly different faces, and the distinguishing details in the description simply ignored.

So a Codex holds the real thing. A locked reference still, its seed, and the model that made it. Every shot in the project draws from it, and the resemblance holds through a change of angle, expression, lighting, or location.

Exploration then runs on a cheap model at a tenth the price, because you are checking framing and movement, not faces. Finals run once, on the prompt you already approved.

What we put through it

Nine generations, zero technical failures, $4.29 spent. Our cost table came within 0.5% of what the vendor actually billed.

Pricing

We don't take a margin on generation

  • 4K master & assembled export

Generation is billed at cost plus 10%. That ten points covers payment fees and the takes we refund — it is not margin. There is no volume discount, because there is nothing to discount. Top-ups are $11 per 1,000 credits at every size.

A 3-minute 4K film costs about $68 in credits. Failed and malformed generations are never charged.

Scope

What this is, and what it isn't

We do

  • Casting and Codex management
  • Screenplay to shot list
  • Storyboard frame per shot
  • Cheap exploration, single final
  • 4K upscale and cut assembly
  • Per-project cost ledger

We don't

  • Timeline editing — keep your NLE
  • Sound mixing and score
  • Colour grading
  • Distribution

You get a finished file. What happens after that is your craft, in your tools.
